Light of Day, Day of Darkness is the second (one-track) studio album by the Norwegianprogressive metal band, Green Carnation. The album was composed, written and arranged by founding member Terje Vik Schei (a.k.a. Tchort). It was released by Prophecy Productions on November 2001.[2] It is composed of a single 60-minute track and was largely inspired by the death of Tchort's daughter and dedicated to his son, Damien Aleksander, whose baby voice appears a few moments in the song. It is said that 600 different samples were used in the editing of the song.[3]

Musical style[edit]

After almost 10 years of total silence, GREEN CARNATIONannounced its comeback to the international metal scene for the 15th anniversary of their cult classic 'Light Of Day, Day Of Darkness'in 2016. Taking all of this into account, Green Carnation doesn’t at all do a bad job with their sophomore album, Light of Day, Day of Darkness, which comes in at almost exactly sixty minutes. For a lot of people, with extended song length comes higher expectations, and although LODDOD, in the end, is a success, it is still flawed and misses some opportunities. Green Carnation’s “Light of Day, Day of Darkness” is an example of metal that reaches for art, and while it is not the first or the last to do so, it is amongst the most successful in achieving this goal.

Green Carnation Light Of Day Day Of Darkness Rare

Musically, Light of Day, Day of Darkness is pure progressive metal. In this album, the band combines many different instruments, not commonly used in metal, to create an original soundscape. The album shows some death metal twinges from their roots with Roger Rasmussen / Nattefrost drafted in to perform death growls and Anders Kobro implementing occasional blast beats as well.

Back in 2001 GREEN CARNATION's 60 minutes progressive monster 'Light of Day, Day of Darkness' impressed me a lot, but all following releases did not stay in my mind. So, I was a bit surprised how strong their comeback 'Leaves of Yesteryear' is! The 5-tracker is progressive, somewhere between metal and rock regarding its heaviness and the songs hover between epic complexity ('My dark reflections of life.
